The UKMO Preservation Programme

As part of the commitment to the preservation of change, the UK Museum of Ordure has, in partnership with Signwave UK's Digital Attrition Labs, developed an exclusive technology that supports the process of decay. The jSMA™ Engine provides a data and meta-data containment system for items that are continually subjected to change. By incrementally applying entropic forces at regular intervals to the containment system, control of such change is foregone, revealing the unpredictable and unstoppable nature of decomposition. The process is often subtle, and sometimes sudden.

Preserving our Heritage: An example of jSMA™ technology in action

Technically, the jSMA™ specifications define a stochastic scheme by which individual binary digits from a JFIF stream are negated. Due to the nature of JFIF streams, such negations can result in drastic, often irrecoverable errors. These represent themselves as shifts of colour ranges and geometric displacements of iMCU blocks following the modified binary digit. Additionally, since jSMA™ defines this process as accretive, there will come a time when the entire JFIF stream becomes unreadable, and the image represented by the JFIF containment system will fail to be valid.

The UKMO therefore invites the urgent assistance of the general public in order to preserve its collection. By adding new items to the UKMO collection of ordure, the gradual destruction by the jSMA™ Engine can be counteracted. The more items that exist within the UKMO collection, the less overall damage will be incurred. Support our cause by adding your own entry to the UK Museum of Ordure's collection
